Auto Takeoff
Run Auto Takeoff to automatically detect and measure walls, doors, glazing (windows), and rooms on your floor plan. The AI analyzes the drawing and generates takeoff measurements that you can review and edit.
Steps
- Click the lightning-bolt button on the toolbar (tooltip: "Auto Takeoff").
- Choose what to detect from the menu: Room Areas, Wall LF, Doors, Glazing, or All Takeoffs. Wall LF opens two choices: Walls only (total linear feet) or Walls by type (linear feet per partition type, read from the sheet's wall tags or legend; adds about a minute). Doors opens two choices: Door count (single / double) or Takeoff from door schedule. Symbol Search and Text Search also live in this menu.
- A progress dialog tracks the run. Processing typically takes less than 2 minutes.
- When complete, the detected elements appear as colored overlays on your drawing.
- All results land in the "Auto Takeoffs" folder of the Takeoffs tab (left sidebar), where you can rename, hide, edit, or delete them.
Notes
- •Auto Takeoff requires a confirmed scale and a signed-in account. The sheet must be at its original 0 degree rotation. One run can go at a time, with up to 20 runs per hour per account. Auto Takeoff is turned off on mobile devices and in browser windows narrower than 768 pixels.
- •AI results work best on clean, vector-based floor plans. Scanned or low-resolution drawings may produce less accurate results.
- •Running Auto Takeoff again changes only what you picked, on the current sheet: Walls only and Walls by type redo the sheet's AI walls, Door count its AI doors, Glazing its AI glazing, Room Areas its AI rooms, and All Takeoffs all four. What the new run finds replaces the earlier results of that category; if it finds none, the earlier ones stay. Other categories and other sheets keep their results, including settings such as Include door openings.
- •A run shows the layers it created and leaves your other takeoffs and layers as they were. Door markers start hidden after a Door count or All Takeoffs run to reduce clutter; the door counts still appear in the takeoff list. Toggle the eye icon to show them.
- •Picking Room Areas, Walls only, Door count, Glazing, or All Takeoffs right after an Auto Takeoff on the same sheet can just show that category's overlays instead of running the AI again, when that run's results for the category are already on the sheet. Otherwise it runs. Walls by type and Takeoff from door schedule always run their own pass. After you reload the page, picking an option runs the AI again.
