Estimates & Proposals
Importing Exclusions, Inclusions, Allowances and Alternates
Paste or upload the clarifications, exclusions, inclusions, allowances and alternates you already have, and have each one become its own numbered line on the Estimate Summary and the proposal. Save the result as a reusable list for the next estimate.
Steps
- On the Estimate Summary tab, click Import above any of the four lists (Alternates, Allowances, Clarifications & Exclusions, Inclusions). The same Import tool is on each section heading in the proposal editor.
- Paste your list: bullets, numbered lines, one item per line, or a single line separated by commas or semicolons. Or upload an Excel, CSV, Word (.docx), text or PDF file.
- Click Split into items and review the result. Each item shows which list it will go to; change the list, edit the wording, fix a cost, or untick anything you do not want.
- Tick Also save as a reusable list and give it a name if you will use this set again. Then click Add.
- Next time, open Import on any list and click Add beside a saved list to append its items.
Notes
- •Headings in the text (Exclusions, Clarifications & Exclusions, Inclusions, Allowances, Alternates) sort the items under them into that list, so one paste can fill all four. Items are otherwise added to the list you opened Import from; an item that says 'by others' or 'not included' goes to exclusions, and one that starts with 'Allowance' or 'Alternate' goes to that list.
- •A dollar amount at the end of an allowance or alternate ($5,000, or 5,000 after a colon or dash) becomes its cost. In a spreadsheet the number column beside the text is the cost.
- •Items that are already in the list are unticked. Adding shows an Undo for ten seconds.
- •Saved lists are kept with your estimate templates but are not shown in the Templates menu, because a template replaces the estimate while a saved list only appends.
- •Scanned PDFs (no selectable text) and .doc files are not read: save them as .docx, .txt or a PDF from the original document, or paste the text.
